PRACTICE WINDS DOWN AT INDY

WITH BRACK POSTING

SECOND 2ND BEST SPEED

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (May 22, 2005) – Kenny Brack, a day after setting the fastest qualifying at 227.598 miles per hour, returned to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and completed his race preparation for the 89th running of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race on May 29.

The driver of the No.15 Argent Mortgage/Pioneer Honda Panoz Firestone car took out his backup Sunday for race setup in the morning and afternoon practice session. Brack recorded the second fastest lap of the day at 222.178 m.p.h. in the 40 laps he completed. Kenny was working on an important portion of his safety equipment – his racing helmet.

Since Brack raced in 2003, racing helmets have changed aerodynamically and Kenny tried a variety of new helmets before going back to his 2003 model. But due to changes in the aerodynamics of the racing cars, Brack’s helmet was not as secure as he would have liked. So this Argent/Pioneer crew from Rahal Letterman Racing worked on developing some aerodynamic pieces for his bright, blue and yellow helmet. Little flaps and grooves were added to assist the helmet’s stability when Brack drives in traffic on the race circuit.

“It’s funny but the helmet moves around a differently now that it did in 2003,” explained Brack, who was pleased with his race setup on Sunday. “I tried a couple of new styles but I decided to go back to my old original helmet. My crew made a couple of adjustments to help the helmet stay still. The cars are different now too and I think that had something to do with the aerodynamics of my helmet. But it felt good at the end today and the car was good too. I’m pleased with our car going to Carb Day.”

While Brack made his final race adjustments, Buddy Rice, Danica Patrick and Vitor Meira met with the team’s engineering staff for one final time before waiting until next Friday’s final practice on Carb Day. The Indy cars will get one hour of practice on Friday.

Brack and Meira will be in New York City Monday with all 33 starting drivers for a media event at Times Square along with Secretary of State Colin Powell , who’ll drive this year’s pace car in the Indy 500.

The drivers will return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Wednesday for the annual Community Day when the fans meet the drivers and gain their autographs. Thursday is the annual CARA Charities Indy 500 Fashion Show with the drivers and their families in front of more than 1,200 spectators.
