Mantorp Park and spiders

Dear friends,

It was a long time since you got a personal report from me. I would love to update the page more often with my reports but since nothing of importance has happened for a long time, there simply has not been a reason to write.

That changed today when I accepted an invitation from Porsche Sweden to drive their guest car in the season finale at Mantorp Park, Sweden.
They have had quite a few well-known drivers driving in this car in their events this year. For example Mika Hakkinen, Stefan Johansson, Nicola Kiesa, Tony Richardsson etc.
Although I´m grateful to get this invitation it was no easy decision to make, since I still don´t feel fully recovered from the accident yet, and I have not been racing for over 10 months.

I have never liked to do things not being able to fully prepare myself, but this time I have chosen to view it a little differently. I am confident I am in form to drive this type of car reasonable well and the race result is of less importance.
The reason I will drive is that I think it´s going to be a lot of fun and I´m very much looking forward to getting back in a racecar again, especially in Sweden. I have not raced there since 1992, which is 12 years ago.

Then on Sunday night after the race a friend of mine, Jan “Flash” Nilsson who drives in the “Swedish Touring Car Championship”, and myself are having our “End of the season party” near the Mantorp track. It´s usually loads of fun and we get to meet good friends etc. This time we will perform music with our special band, “The Formelbilers” that we only bring out on special occasions (we feel that this is such an occasion so don´t get scared if you happen to hear some really awful noise).
So it´s a good thing I´m driving this Porsche race, otherwise there would not have been a good reason to have an “End of the season party”!

During my time in Scandinavia next week I am also going to Norway to take part in one of their biggest TV-programs, “Noen Bedre”, in Oslo on Tuesday the 14th.

Everything else is going as planned.
I´ve been improving my physical health through rehab and normal workouts to the point that no “normal” activity is a challenge. I wish the recovery would go even faster so I could take a decision about my IndyCar-racing future, but considering the injuries I sustained I am very pleased to have gotten this far at this point of time.

I´m going to most of the races with my team and I´m helping out with various things. I´m also keeping myself up to date with what´s happening in terms of developments. The team with Buddy and Vitor are doing well and Buddy is right now in third position in the championship with three rounds to go. In the top it´s all Honda powered cars, like us, but hopefully it will still be possible to improve at least one position in the final standings before the end of the season.

We have also performed with the band at various races. The last concert we did was in Pikes Peak a couple of weeks ago, where we opened up for Leeann Rimes. Well, perhaps I should say we were supposed to open up for her. Because the crew dropped her stage, which they were pulling behind a tractor, and it took off right into the inside wall in turn 4 and left a big mess in terms of equipment damage. This took some time to clear up and by the time we were done with our show, weather came in and she had to cancel her show. Not the best day for her I am sure.
Next we´ll play at ESPN Zone downtown Chicago this Thursday. That should be a lot of fun.

Karma is growing too and she is a lot of fun. She just turned 8 months and she wants to stand up all the time. Crawling seems not to be her thing so we´re wondering if she´s going to go from sitting to walking and simply skip that crawling stage.
The other day when she was with her “dad”, “dad” walked away for a few minutes and when I returned she had ate a spider. I knew because part of its legs where still hanging on her cheeks and she gargled and drooled for about half hour after that! Good thing it wasn´t a “Black Widow” because I suspect that would most probably have made Anita a widow too after she´d found out “dad” let her out of sight.

Talk to you soon,

Kenny
