Kenny Brack Goes Home

BRACK RETURNS HOME TO CONTINUE REHABILITATION

INDIANAPOLIS, Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 – IRL IndyCar® Series driver Kenny Brack, who was injured in the season-ending Chevy 500 Oct. 12 at Texas Motor Speedway, returned to his Upper Arlington, Ohio home today, said Dr. Henry Bock, director of medical services for the Indy Racing League.

After spending almost six weeks at Methodist Hospital and the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana, both in Indianapolis, Brack was transferred Dec. 1 to Dodd Hall Rehabilitation Center at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio for inpatient therapy.

He will begin his outpatient therapy Dec. 8 at the Ohio Orthopedic Center of Excellence in Columbus under the supervision of Dr. Pete Edwards.

“I feel very good about going home today,” Brack said. “My parents came here from Sweden and they are helping Anita (Brack´s wife) and I get around the house. Anita is due with our first child at the end of the month, so it´s great to have them here. It´s just a good feeling to be home after the past seven weeks. I feel good about the rehab too. It is going well and I think I am progressing each day."

The Bracks feel they are getting back to normal now after seven weeks in the hospital.

“We are very pleased to be home now,” said Anita Brack. “We want to thank everyone for their help, thoughts and prayers during the last couple of months. Kenny is improving every day. It ´s good to be back in our house.”

Brack, the 1998 IRL IndyCar Series champion and 1999 Indianapolis 500 winner, suffered a fractured right femur, a fractured sternum, a fractured lumbar (L-3) vertebra and fractures to both ankles in an accident on Lap 188 of the Chevy 500.

He had surgery on Oct. 12 (femur and ankles) and Oct. 13 (vertebra) at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital. He had follow-up surgery on his vertebra and right ankle on Nov. 4 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
