« Back Sunday, October 19, 2003 Brack Moves From Intensive Car Saturday For Immediate Release 6:00 p.m. (CDT) Oct. 18, 2003 KENNY BRACK MOVES FROM INTENSIVE CARE; TEAM RAHAL DRIVER LOOKS TOWARDS REHAB Pioneer/Miller Lite Racer Speaks With His Parents In Sweden DALLAS, Texas.… Kenny Brack was smiling wide Saturday morning at Parkland Hospital as he was wheeled from the intensive care unit to a private room. Brack held his wife Anita´s hand as he looked outside for the first time since last Sunday. He was excited to be in his own hospital room and visiting with friends and family. Brack, driver of the No. 15 Pioneer/Miller Lite Honda Dallara, suffered massive injuries in last Sunday´s Chevy 500 IRL IndyCar Series race at the Texas Motor Speedway. Brack is still listed in satisfactory condition at Parkland Hospital with injuries that included a fractured right femur, a fractured sternum and lumbar vertebrae and fractures to both ankles. Brack had surgery on Sunday and Monday nights to repair the damage. "Kenny was very happy today when he was moved from intensive care," said Anita Brack. "He was able to eat some solid food for the first time and look outside for the first time since the crash. He also was able to talk to his parents for the first time since the crash by phone. That really picked him up." On Saturday, Brack was visited by former Indy 500 winner Johnny Rutherford, fellow IRL driver Greg Ray and Texas Motor Speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "He enjoyed talking to everyone today but he did get tired pretty quickly," said Anita. "He is still asking lots of questions - to the doctors about his injuries and about the race and the crash." Brack is expected to remain at Parkland Hospital for several more days and will eventually be transferred to Indianapolis to begin rehabilitation for his injuries. "Kenny is looking towards rehab now," said Anita Brack. "He knows he has a long recovery ahead."
